NIROX OPEN DAY 15 MAY and PRE-RELEASE SCREENING - THIS IS NOT A BURIAL, IT'S A RESURRECTION.
NIROX, in partnership with URUCU, brings you a pre-release screening of the multi-award winning Basotho film This Is Not A Burial, It’s A Resurrection, written and directed by Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese.
Amongst the pythonic mountains of land-locked Lesotho, an 80 year old widow winds up her earthly affairs, makes arrangements for her burial and prepares to die. But when her village is threatened with forced resettlement due to the construction of a resevoir, she finds a new will to live and ignites a collective spirit of resilience within her community. In the final dramatic moments of her life, Mantoa’s legend is forged and made eternal.
This Is Not A Burial, It’s A Resurrection stars the late screen and theatre legend Mary Twala Mhlongo in her swansong performance. It is the first film from Lesotho, made by a Mosotho director to be showcased internationally. It served as Lesotho’s first-ever entry to both the Oscars and the Golden Globes in 2020 and has to date won 27 international awards.
The film was born at NIROX in 2017, when it participated in the Realness African Screenwriter’s Residency. The residency, founded in 2015 by the Realness Institute, has fostered 36 feature film projects from 16 African countries. NIROX has served as the artistic incubator and home away from home for these filmmakers for the 5 editions of the residency.
Leading up to the film’s national release on 21 May, an exclusive pre-release screening of This Is Not A Burial, It’s A Resurrection will take place on 15 March at its place of inception; NIROX. Crew and cast members will be in attendance and a Q&A will follow the screening.
The screening will begin promptly at 3pm and we kindly ask that everyone is seated by 2:45pm.
