DESCRIPTION:<p><em>Good Neighbours</em> will open to the public on 7 – 8 
 May 2022. Following the successful inaugural OPEN LABORATORY Winter Sculpt
 ure Exhibition in 2017\, NIROX extends its partnership with local universi
 ties to include public and private institutions across South Africa\, Zimb
 abwe\, Eswatini\, Mozambique\, Namibia\, Angola\, and Botswana to co-devel
 op and present an evolving programme of exhibitions\, residencies\, worksh
 ops\, talks\, and a concert.</p><p> </p><p><em>Good Neighbours</em> provi
 des a timely reflection on the relations amongst South Africans and our ne
 ighbours in the face of growing global instability. It supports the work o
 f more than 30 artists\, 24 of whom have received grants from the Claire a
 nd Edoardo Villa Will Trust to produce new work on the given theme. Partne
 r institutions include the University of Cape Town\, University of Johanne
 sburg\, University of the Witwatersrand\, University of Pretoria\, Univers
 ity of the Free State\, and Tshwane University of Technology. The exhibiti
 on is supported by the Portuguese Embassy to South Africa.</p><p> </p><p>
 The opening weekend will include a series of curator-led walkabouts\; perf
 ormances by <strong>Bontle Tau</strong> (Spirit to Spirit – Dust to Dust
 )\, <strong>Janine Allen </strong>(On the shoulders of giants)\, and a col
 laborative sound performance by <strong>Daniel Gray</strong>\, <strong>Tub
 atsi Moloi</strong>\, and <strong>Andrei van Wyk</strong> (<em>Slow Sonics
 </em>)\; screenings of films by <strong>Liam Brickhill</strong> and <stron
 g>Anel Wessels</strong> (<em>Petrichor</em>)\, <strong>Dane Armstrong</str
 ong> and <strong>Linzi Lewis</strong> (<em>De|Composition</em>)\, <strong>
 Carla Bussitil</strong> and <strong>Gary Charles</strong> (<em>Mosquito Li
 ghtning</em>)\, <strong>Timothy Gabb </strong>(<em>Lost Carts of the Karoo
 </em>) and <strong>Sifiso Khanyile</strong> (<em>Reclaimers</em>)\; and a 
 musical performance by the <strong>Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.</s
